Cooking Up Literacy Tip: Walk, Talk & Water!

Take a walk, share new words, and stay hydrated—every step is a chance to learn together.
Take a walk, share new words, and stay hydrated—every step is a chance to learn together.

Can I let you in on a little challenge? Like many families, we know it's not always easy to drink enough water each day. We also know that finding time for outdoor play, physical movement, and reading can feel like one more thing to squeeze into an already busy schedule.

So why not combine them?

Grab a water bottle and head outside for a family Walk, Talk & Water adventure! As you walk, choose a "Word of the Walk." It could be something you see, hear, or feel—like breeze, explore, bloom, or curious. Talk about what the word means, use it in a sentence, and see who can find something that matches it.

💧 Here's the fun part: Every time someone uses the word correctly or discovers something new, everyone takes a sip of water!

In just a few minutes, you've encouraged hydration, built vocabulary, enjoyed family conversation, and added movement to your day—all at the same time.

We'd love for you to join us!

On Saturday, August 1, at 11:00 a.m., we'll be hosting another Cooking Up Literacy experience at the Gwinnett County Community Resource Center on Bethany Church Road in Snellville, Georgia.

Together we'll:

  • 🍋 Make a refreshing, flavored water recipe

  • 🍦 Create homemade ice cream

  • 📖 Read together

  • 🎵 Sing songs

  • 💃 Move to the rhythm

  • ❤️ Learn, laugh, and make lasting family memories

We hope you'll come cook, read, move, and grow with us!

Strong families. Healthy habits. Bright futures. One story—and one sip—at a time.
