Excellence Without Permission

Honoring Sacrifice, Purpose, and the Next Generation of Leaders

Memorial Day is more than the unofficial beginning of summer.

It is a time to pause and remember the men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to something greater than themselves. Their courage, discipline, and willingness to serve remind us that freedom, opportunity, and community are never built without sacrifice.

As we honor their legacy, we should also ask ourselves an important question:

What kind of future are we building with the opportunities we have today?

At What’s Stirring Family Foundation and Tectonic Village, LLC, we believe one way we honor sacrifice is by investing in the next generation — helping young people become leaders of purpose, integrity, creativity, compassion, and excellence.

There are young people right now creating in silence.

Young leaders building ideas nobody notices yet.

Young entrepreneurs learning without resources.

Young visionaries trying to stay motivated while watching others receive recognition first.

If that is you, this message is for you.

You often hear people say:

“Pursue excellence.”

But what many do not tell you is that excellence can sometimes attract resistance before recognition.

Not everyone will celebrate your growth.

Not everyone will understand your discipline.

And sometimes insecure people may try to discourage the very gifts that make you unique.

So what should you do?

Should you lower your standards?

Should you stop striving because recognition has not arrived yet?

No.

Your purpose must become greater than the applause.

When purpose leads your work:

  • rejection becomes redirection,

  • delays become preparation,

  • and small beginnings become the foundation for future impact.

Langston Hughes once wrote:

“Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.”

For many future leaders, that remains true today.

Some are climbing while carrying responsibilities beyond their age.

Some are trying to build without mentorship.

Some are learning to lead while healing from environments that doubted them.

Yet they continue climbing anyway.

That matters.

At What’s Stirring Family Foundation, we believe in strengthening families through literacy, healthy living, creativity, and education.

At Tectonic Village, LLC, we believe in helping youth develop entrepreneurial thinking, leadership skills, storytelling abilities, and creative confidence that can shape stronger futures.

Together, we believe excellence is not about popularity.

It is about purpose.

It is about service.

It is about becoming the kind of person whose impact helps others rise too.

So this Memorial Day, while we honor those who sacrificed for future generations, we also encourage young people to continue building lives of character, resilience, and meaningful contribution.

Keep learning.

Keep growing.

Keep serving.

Keep creating.

Even if the room is quiet right now.

Because real excellence never needs permission to shine.
