🎉 What a SWEET Saturday of family learning!

Our second Cooking Up Literacy event was filled with surprises, smiles, and lots of learning! Sometimes the best adventures begin unexpectedly, and that's exactly what happened. We packed up, moved to a new room, and before long, the fun was in full swing!
Families with children from the primary grades through high school rolled up their sleeves and created TWO delicious recipes—refreshing Lively Lemon Mint Water and creamy Homemade Ice Cream.
But the recipes were only the beginning!
🧊 We became scientists, discovering how ice and rock salt work together to transform a liquid into ice cream.
âž• We became mathematicians, measuring, counting, and mixing ingredients.
đź“– We became readers, following recipes and learning new vocabulary.
🎵 We became musicians, singing, laughing, and moving together while we cooked.
There were smiles with every shake of the ice cream bags, cheers when the ice cream finally thickened, and lots of excitement as everyone enjoyed the delicious treats they had made together.
 We even learned two Words of the Day! One of our favorite words was moderation—learning that homemade ice cream is a special treat to enjoy once in a while, while water is a healthy drink we should choose every day. The children discovered that healthy eating is all about making balanced choices, not giving up the foods we love.
One of the greatest joys of Cooking Up Literacy is watching families realize that learning doesn't just happen at a desk—it happens in the kitchen, around the table, through conversations, curiosity, and shared experiences.
A huge thank you to the wonderful families who joined us and made the day so much fun. Your enthusiasm, laughter, and willingness to learn together are what make these experiences so special.
