Proud of the Work, the Person, and the Difference

With proud smiles and visible excitement, Daniel an

d Alonna accepted a plaque at the inaugural Literacy Festival that reads:

“May you be proud of the work you do, the person you are, and the difference you make.”

That moment represented more than recognition — it reflected families gathering to cook, read, ask questions, and learn together.

The student-led festival, developed in partnership with The Arrow Youth Leadership Council International, the Gladys S. Dennard Library, and the South Fulton Teen Advisory Board, centered on the theme “Words Can Take You Anywhere.” It showcased what becomes possible when young leaders are given meaningful platforms to create and serve.

During the Q&A session, Daniel shared that he wants families to cook together, learn together, and enjoy spending time with one another. He believes the kitchen is more than a place to make food — it’s a space where families can talk, explore new ideas, and grow together. Afterward, he added that he enjoys when people stay engaged by asking questions and sharing their favorite recipes. For Daniel, learning is more fun when everyone gets involved.

Alonna echoed that vision through hands-on demonstrations, bringing the book to life beyond the recipes and connecting ingredients to real-world knowledge.

Moments like these demonstrate the power of youth-led literacy in action. The vision now is to expand these interactive experiences to more schools, libraries, and communities — strengthening literacy outcomes while creating sustainable pathways for youth leadership. With strategic partnerships and sponsor support, this impact can reach even more families in the years ahead.
